Women’s Checklist

Caring for the woman’s well-being is simple. You can start with this list of tips suggested by the CDC:

1. Have a balanced diet. Five servings of fresh fruits and vegetables a day are recommended. Choose lean meat cuts over fatty ones, whole grains over refined starch. And remember the key word: moderation.

2. Maintain a healthy weight. Obese or overweight persons are at greater risk for cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and stroke. Keep a healthy weight by eating well and exercising.

3. Get moving. Adults need to do 30 minutes of moderate physical activity at least 5 times a week. Exercise is not only good for the body; it is also good for improving mental and emotional health. Choose activities you enjoy, such as walking, dancing, gardening, and swimming.

4. Be smoke-free. Smoking, including second-hand smoke, has been associated with cancer, lung disease, infertility, and complicated pregnancy.

5. Get routine exams and screenings. Conditions that you need to be regularly screened for are high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, sexually transmitted diseases, and cancers of the skin, cervix, breast, and colon. When problems are found early, chances for treatment and cure are better.

6. Get appropriate vaccinations. Vaccines aren’t just for kids. Adults also need them to protect against illnesses.

7. Manage stress. Finding the balance between career and home is a challenge women face everyday. De-stress by making time for relaxation and leisure.

8. Be good to yourself. This is probably the most important thing a woman can do for herself.
